What is BJS
Bharatiya Jain Sanghatana (BJS) is a non-profit social impact organization in the forefront of addressing national concerns in disaster response, water conservation, health and social development. Established in 1985, BJS’ early work that transformed into a mass movement has been instrumental in freeing several communities from the shackles of undesirable social customs responsible for dowry deaths and female foeticide. It has also been a lead player in relief and rehabilitation efforts during all major disasters in India and its neighbourhood since 1993, including several droughts in the past decade and more recently the Covid-19 pandemic.

In these 11 states, along with a few dispersed locations across India, BJS implements Social Development Programs through its specially trained volunteers.
Disaster Response Activities
BJS has been part of all major disaster relief efforts in India since the 1993 Latur-Osmanabad earthquake. Key interventions include:
1993 – Latur & Osmanabad Earthquake (Maharashtra)
1996 – Jabalpur Earthquake (Madhya Pradesh)
2001 – Gujarat Earthquake
2002 – Akola Floods (Maharashtra)
2005 – Andaman & Nicobar Tsunami
2005 – Jammu & Kashmir Earthquake
2008 – Bihar Floods
2013 & 2016 – Maharashtra Droughts
Educational Rehabilitation Initiatives
BJS has prioritized educational rehabilitation of disaster-affected and vulnerable children since 1993. Major initiatives include:
Post-1993 Earthquake: Rehabilitated 1200 children, supporting their education from 5th standard to graduation.
1997: Established the Wagholi Educational Rehabilitation Center (WERC) near Pune, a permanent facility for educational rehabilitation.
1996 onwards: Hosting tribal students from Melghat (Amravati) and Kosbad (Thane) in Maharashtra.
2015 onwards: Took responsibility for children of suicide-affected farmers’ families in Maharashtra.
Wagholi Educational Rehabilitation Center (WERC)
At WERC, BJS provides:
Quality schooling and higher education
Co-curricular development opportunities
Focus on sports, mental, and physical health
In the 2016-17 academic year, WERC hosted:
287 tribal boys
653 boys and girls from farmers’ families
All facilities are provided with utmost care, ensuring holistic development.
