Shantilal Muttha – Founder of Bharatiya Jain Sanghatana

Mr. Shantilal Muttha was born on 15 August 1954 in the small village of Dongarkinhi. He Graduated from BMCC college Pune.While studying he had experienced social disparities and exploitation by the person of means which left a bad impression on his mind.

Subsequently, he started working with other NGO’S and Jain community. He was continually identifying the means of work for social causes due to unforeseen childhood. To look after the financial issue, he has established and flourished his business of the real estate.

At the age of 31, he has started working for social development with full vigor and created an informal association named Akhil Maharashtra Jain Sanghatana. Thereafter he organized mass marriages and parichay sammelans, to limit the wrongful practice of dowry and marriage extravaganza and also brought remarriage to the fore.

In 1993, after his involvement in the Latur earthquake, Shantilal Muttha used his valuable experience & visionary leadership to create a mechanism within WERC for disaster response. Around this time Bhartiya Jain Sanghatana got officially registered as an NGO.The credit of establishment and development of Bhartiya Jain Sanghatana(BJS) and its numerous achievements goes entirely to the dynamic leadership and undaunted hard work of Shantilal Muttha.

He has been personally shaping up the three arms of BJS viz. in Disaster response, Social and Educational Development. His constant endeavours to delivering impactful, replicable solutions at the grassroots over last 30 years since 1985, have brought BJS in the reckoning for its social development, disaster response and education at the national and international levels. He is also a recipient of various awards for his exemplary work.

Shri Shantilal Muttha honored with QIMPRO Awards in 2010 for National Statesman of excellence in Education Practices.
Shri Shantilal Muttha honored with WANGO (World Association of NGOs) international award at the hand of Chairman of WANGO, Mr. Taj Hamad for the year 2005 in recognition for BJS activities & contribution towards excellence.
Shri Shantilal Muttha honored with Giants Recognition Award in 2004 by leading cinema personality Shri Amitabh Bachhan.
Shri Shantilal Muttha honoured with Diwaliben Mohanlal Mehta Award in 1997 by Chief Justice P. N. Bhagwati and H.H.The Dalai Lama.
Shri Shantilal Muttha honored with Medi Foundation Award by President Shri Shankar Dyal Sharma in 1989.
Shri Shantilal Muttha honored with Pune Yuva Gaurav Puraskar by Secretary,Minister of environment and forest Shri TN Shenshan in 1986, in presence of Smt. Sarala Muttha.
Shri Shantilal Muttha honored with Vasundara Gaurav Award for Social Work at Sangali in 2020.
Shri Shantilal Muttha honored with Tarun Kranti Puruskar at the hand of Muni Tarun Sagar for extraordinary work in the field of nation building in 2012.

Shri Shantilal Muttha honored with Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Awards in 2017 for the service rendered in the field of welfare of children, by Hon'ble President of India, Shri Ramnath Kovind.
Shri Shantilal Muttha honored with Savitribai Phule ”Jeevan Sadhana Gaurav” Puraskar at the hands of Hon.Smt.Pratibhatai Patil (President of India) in 2016.
